SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) - It's an election year, but not just for politics. One of the big things on people's minds is the changes for prescriptions and maybe some other changes that are unexpected. That's how you know it's time to call Myers Family Insurance in Salem.
"We are in an election year and everybody's focused on the government and what changes are coming by," said Jim Myers, managing partner of Myers Family Insurance. "Prescriptions for 2025 are a big concern for a lot of folks. The Medicare plans are changing how they're covering prescriptions or getting rid of certain things or adding certain things, which ultimately just causes more confusion for folks on Medicare that are happy with their plan. But now are are going to maybe see some changes that they haven't seen in the past."
This year it's a big change with prescriptions.
"Everybody does have some sort of change. It may be a new prescription that you're taking or a new condition health-wise that you're trying to deal with or a new provider or providers changing location," said Myers. "So to make sure that your health care stays relatively seamless and just to have an understanding and an expectation of what you're looking at is the reason to come in. The plans all get tweaked a little bit every year. And sometimes it's a minor change, but if it's something that pertains to you and your health care, it could be a major change."
With so many plans out there, you can be sure the team at Myers Family Insurance is on top of all the latest information, with Medicare being the agency's specialty.
"Lots of studying over the summer. We spend a lot of time taking our annual test, working with the carriers, taking all their different trainings," said Myers. "Just stay up on it and it is a lot, but that's all we do."
Not only is the team at Myers Family Insurance like a family, but they'll treat you like one too.
"Anybody in our office, if you call in, they're going to greet you friendly," said Myers. "They're going to be honest with you and help you understand what you've got. We don't charge any fees. You want the plan, you get the plan. The nice part about us helping you with your plan is then we're attached to you as your agent of record, which means during the year, if you have a claims issue or something like that. Again, part of the reason we have the team we do is so that if you lost your card or you get a bill, you don't understand, you can call us and we can help you through that process too. So you're not on an island trying to deal with some call center with an insurance company. You get to talk to us."
So when you go to see the team at Myers Family Insurance, what should you be prepared to bring?
"List of prescriptions, a list of the doctors, their current insurance information and their little red, white, and blue Medicare cards so we can kind of go from there and help them understand the plan that they have," said Myers. "What changes that plan might have and what might be an alternative to them that could help them out or save them some money in the next year?"
And at Myers Family Insurance they're not going to try and fix something that's not broken.
"If you're on the right plan, I'm going to tell you to stay on your plan. And maybe that makes me a horrible business man, but that's the way we handle things here. And if I can help you out and save you some money, I'm going to do that," said Myers. "But if you're in a good spot, I want you to at least leave here understanding your plan and your coverage a little bit better."
